Shout out to my very favourite co-parenting apps! When I help separating & divorcing families, I find that effective communication is the key to successful co-parenting.
There’s an app for that!
I consistently discourage email, text, or verbal communication as the primary way to communicate, as these apps are a way to compartmentalize your co-parenting.
These apps are like a “filing cabinet” for communication – depending on the one you chose, there are features such as: shared calendar, scheduling organization (change requests, etc), information bank, shared to-do lists, journal, file storage, messaging (most have parent-parent and parent-child secure messaging or even family group messaging in some cases), expense tracking, notification settings, photo albums, shared contacts relating to kids, access provided to your divorce professional (lawyer/mediator/etc), and a “tone meter” (the item that can cause you to pause before pressing send to check yourself!).
There are many reviews of co-parenting apps, and any online search will bring up tons of options to choose from – with all of the features spelled out, as well as cost-comparisons.
I value these apps so much that for my clients I pay 50% of the cost of a one-year subscription! My goal is always to set my clients on their way to more effective co-parenting so they don’t need me over the long term!
Good luck finding the one that’s right for you!
